BBC’s latest drama, ‘7:39’, covers an extra marital affair between two London commuters played by David Morrissey and Sheridan Smith, and without giving any spoilers, the consequences of this on any existing families and relationships.

In this country there is only one ground for divorce, namely the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. Currently, that can be established by adultery, behaviour, desertion, separation for two years with the other party’s consent or separation for five years without the other party’s consent.
