The Home Office has announced new rules for passengers entering the United Kingdom from 8 June, which include the requirement to self-isolation for a fourteen day period following arrival. The Home Secretary Priti Patel has justified the introduction of this requirement at this time to protect the country from a second wave of COVID-19 cases, as it is envisaged that as the UK transitions from lockdown, the number of passengers arriving in the country will increase dramatically and increase the risk of transmission of the virus to the UK community.

You will be required to provide your UK address and remain there for fourteen days before being able to move freely within the UK. A fine of £1000 will be imposed if you fail to self-isolate.

You may leave your place of isolation if you require medical treatment, support from social services, you require food and medicine and cannot have it delivered, you are attending a funeral of a close relative, or for other compelling or compassionate reasons.

This self-isolation requirement will clearly affect travellers to and from the UK and business and the UK Government has undertaken to keep this requirement under regular review and to remove it as soon as it is able to do so.
