Edward is a Private Wealth lawyer based in the firm’s Mayfair office. Edward advises a broad range of clients in a wide range of circumstances including drafting Wills, guiding clients through the complexities of probate and estate administration and advising on a wide range of trust matters including for charity trustees.
His work includes advising on lifetime succession planning in a wide range of circumstances whether the assets involved are simple or are more complex, for example privately owned business or property. This includes tailoring solutions to a client’s personal circumstances whilst being mindful of inheritance tax and other important considerations. The aim being to safeguard wealth whilst harmonising that with a client’s other aspirations for themselves and their family.
As well as working for clients based in the UK, Edward has experience of working for clients who are domiciled abroad and who have cross border aspects to their lives.

What you may not know about Edward
Edward’s previous career was as an Army officer, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before spending time serving with his Regiment who were based in Germany, London and then Scotland. Edward successfully completed his transition from the Army to law having completed his Graduate Diploma in Law part time, distance learning, whilst still a serving Army officer.
Highlights of Edward’s Army career included leading a team Nordic skiing in Norway, developing a new training programme for future leaders of the Regiment, attending an exercise with the Australian Army outside Brisbane and leading his Regiment down the Royal Mile atop a grey horse for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

Whilst the Fifth EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive (5MLD) came into force on 6 October 2020 with little fanfare, the impact it will have on trusts with a UK connection could well be dramatic. In essence, the 5MLD implements a number of strict anti-money laundering requirements; a number of which have now been extended to nearly all trusts including non-taxpaying trusts, which to date were exempted from such reporting.
