Peter joined the Wills and Probate department in 2014 and has 34 years’ post-qualification experience handling Wills, Probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Trusts work as well as advising on the associated tax issues including lifetime planning
Peter also brings with him the added experience of having been a member of the Court of Protection specialist Panel of Deputies for ten years and routinely managing on behalf of the Court the affairs of persons lacking mental capacity following accidents.
Peter has gained a considerable knowledge of the benefits system which he continues to utilise in order to assist the firm’s elderly clients where necessary.
Peter has encountered throughout his career most forms of estates and trusts; including those of people resident abroad with assets in England and Wales and vice-versa. He has also handled numerous disputed probates whether acting for those bringing, or those seeking to defend such a claim. Peter also handles claims against executors for mismanagement of the estate.
Peter brings a practical and friendly approach to all aspects of his work seeking were possible to reduce further distress to clients in what is often an already stressful situation.

Many of us give gifts to others throughout our lives to express our love, communicate our appreciation and show that we care. However, the provisions of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA 2005) limit an attorney’s ability to make gifts, on behalf of a Donor, under a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). This article discusses the different types of gifts that attorneys can make, and the consequences of making gifts that go beyond the scope of their powers.
