GDPR and UK data protection

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act 2018 came into force on 25 May 2018, replacing the UK’s previous data protection framework. UK companies are likely to have had a good foundation for meeting the requirements of both the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018legislative requirements. However, as the GDPR applies to all organisations that operate both within and outside the EU and which offer goods and services to customers in the EU and who gather, retain and share personal data, the challenges for non EU organisations have been greater.

Compliance with the GDPR is a key business priority which not only UK business but also global organisations in all sectors should now be addressing.

Is your business compliant with EU and UK data protection legislation?

No matter where your business is based or how large it is, if you gather, retain and share personal data on EU customers, it is vital that you are data protection compliant. Data protection Supervisory Authorities in the EU Member States are reviewing compliance levels by companies and organisations that may have taken a “wait and see” approach to compliance and those organisations will  find themselves subject to significant enforcement consequences..

Information audits to identify what data your business holds, whether it is stored correctly and regularly verified and disposed of is a necessary tool in achieving compliance. This exercise will also enable you to identify the reasons you have for processing personal data and where relevant, if consent is required.
