Aircraft acquisition,
finance & leasing

As part of the firm’s wider asset finance practice, the aviation finance team has experience of acting for a variety of airlines, operators, lessors, banks, export credit agencies, investors and other market participants on a broad range of banking and finance work and has experience of many types of aviation financing structures, including:

>  bilateral and syndicated debt (including general corporate lending)

>  secured and unsecured lending

>  export credit backed financings (including ECA wraps and direct lending)

>  operating and finance leases

>  Japanese operating leases

>  Islamic finance structures

>  restructurings

>  PDPs (pre-delivery payment financings)

>  private placements financings

>  equity investment

Members of the team also have extensive experience in both export credit structures and of very large aircraft, namely the Airbus A380-800, amongst other types of financings.

What we believe sets us apart from our competitors is that we deliberately avoid a “silo” approach to the provision of either aviation or asset finance legal services. As a consequence, our lawyers in the aircraft finance team benefit from the expertise available across the firm’s wider aviation and business & finance groups and their knowledge of the industry and its technical and operational background. Therefore, in addition to our aviation finance and general finance expertise, the aviation team is also able to offer advice in relation to broader aviation related transactions and matters such as:

>  wet and ACMI leases

>  charters

>  aircraft sale and purchase agreements

>  agreements with airports

>  ground handling agreements

>  fuel supply agreements

"they have done very well. they are very pragmatic  and offer a quick response" CHAMBERS & PARTNERS

Within the global aviation team there is substantial experience of, not only advising, but actually working in the aviation industry. Several members of the team are experienced former airline in-house lawyers with a good understanding of the pressures and the commercial and technical demands that an airline in-house legal team faces.

The deep understanding of the aviation market which this combination of expertise brings with it, means our clients receive expert, tailored, practical and cost effective solutions. We are particularly focused on the need to give value to our clients in all that we do and have developed various different pricing and fee models to meet this objective - we do not believe that one fee model works for all.
