Highlight Matters

  • Advising the Lloyd’s, the LMA and the IUA on a new ‘Single Claims Agreement Party’ innovation and drafting the agreement for adoption in the market;
  • Advising Lloyd’s in relation to the structure and wording of the new Electronic Placing Platform.
  • Providing advice to the Corporation of Lloyd’s and a supporting opinion for publication to the market to facilitate the roll out of a new Claims Scheme.
  • Defending a large Bermudan Reinsurer against claims under a whole account excess of loss contract.  An early analysis of the merits and identification of procedural errors made by the claimants, enable us to identify a suitable window of opportunity for a favourable settlement for our client and minimise the legal costs incurred.
  • Leading a team acting for a top 10 London Market insurer and its insured in defending a £450m professional indemnity claim in the Commercial Court in London.  By identifying and focusing on the key issues for our client in a complex multiparty case, we achieved a settlement after mediation of less than 1% of the amount claimed at a cost that was within an agreed budget.
  • Advising on the aggregation of a series of accountants’ professional negligence claims for reinsurance purposes.
  • Acting for one of the World’s largest engineering and trading conglomerates to defend a multimillion pound claim relating to allegedly defective goods.  We worked closely with the client to identify potential outcomes and develop a successful case strategy within acceptable costs margins.  This was an international case which required particular sensitivity to the expectations of different business cultures.
  • Advising a P&I Club on the consequences of the insolvency of a major shipping company and member.
  • Simon graduated from the Cambridge University in 1979 and obtained a post graduate diploma in law with distinction from City University London, where he was placed first in the examinations.
