Eleanor is a shipping litigation lawyer, advising on a range of wet and dry shipping matters, trade, international sanctions and general commercial disputes.

Eleanor has experience of advising on admiralty matters including collisions, groundings, unsafe ports, issues of general average, salvage and limitation claims. She also assists clients on a wide range of dry shipping related issues, with a particular emphasis on charterparty and ship management disputes, bills of lading disputes and cargo claims.

Her expertise extends to advising a broad range of clients on the impact of international sanctions imposed by the UN, EU and UK against various countries. This includes advising clients on how the sanctions impact on pre-existing contracts, including charterparties, sale contracts and insurance policies, together with drafting and advising on sanctions clauses in new contracts.

Eleanor gained valuable experience after undertaking a secondment to the in-house legal team of a leading international owner, operator and manager of LNG carriers and now assists the firm’s LNG team. Eleanor also spent six months of her training in Monaco.

Highlight Matters

  • Assisting in relation to the termination of six long term bareboat charterparties and the resulting arbitration proceedings in both London and Singapore for claims in excess of US$100 million.
  • Advising Owners and their insurers in relation to an allision with shore loaders during loading operations in which the losses claimed, across multiple jurisdictions, exceeded US$70million.
  • Advising Owners in relation to multiple issues arising from the breakaway of a large oil tanker from a terminal during loading operations; unsafe port.
  • Assisting Owners in a multi-jurisdictional dispute arising out of a collision in hurricane winds, causing damage to subsea cables; involving issues of limitation. 
  • Acting for Owners in LMAA arbitration proceedings involving substantial claims for unpaid hire and damages arising out of alleged cargo contamination. 
  • Acting for Owners and their insurers in LMAA arbitration proceedings arising out of a grounding of a laden bulk carrier in the Suez Canal.
