David is the head of the Hong Kong office and leads both the Business and Shipping groups in Asia.

David has nearly 35 years of experience in advising global banks, financial institutions, private and public corporations, shipowners and traders on financing and leasing, ship sale and purchase, as well as corporate law including mergers and acquisitions, and listings. In addition, he has wide experience in syndicated bank lending, debt restructuring and security enforcement throughout Asia.

David is a thought leader with insight into the trends and developments that impact on the global shipping and trade industries, with recent focus on China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative and Brexit. David is widely recognised by peers, clients, and independent legal directories as one of the leading lawyers.   •  Advised a leading international shallow water offshore drilling contractor in the sale and leaseback of two newbuild jackup rigs
  •  Advised a major Hong Kong-based shipping company on a US$ 300 million loan facility for the purpose of refinancing the acquisitions of several VLOCs
  •  Advised three major Asian banks on the financing of three 13,200 TEU container vessels for a major Hong Kong shipowner under a Japanese operating lease structure with the aggregate loan amount over US$310 million. The transaction was named “Deal of the Year” at Lloyd’s List Awards Asia 2013.
  •  Advised a shipping consultancy on the establishment of a close-ended investment fund to hold, charter and sell second-hand dry bulk carriers, and the related equity financing and external debt financing
  •  Assisted an international asset management firm in the delivery of a fleet of container vessels and advised on purchases from negotiating the Sale and Purchase Agreements, drafting and reviewing delivery documents, to attending the closing meetings.
