Alan has over 40 years’ experience practising United Kingdom immigration and nationality law, both in the Home Office and in private practice. He spends 100% of his time in this area and provides specialist advice on business, family and work permit options within the United Kingdom Immigration Rules and the EEA Regulations.

Alan began working for the Home Office UK Border Force as an Immigration Officer in 1983 and after spending four years based at Heathrow Airport he was seconded to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He was posted to Nigeria for five years to work in the British High Commission in Lagos as a Consular & Visa Officer where he dealt with a full range of UK visa applications, claims to British Citizenship and consular matters.

On returning to the UK, he worked at Stansted Airport and then in the UK Border Force Headquarters in Croydon, training air and sea carriers on the detection of passengers travelling with forged and counterfeit documentation, and developing and implementing legislation known as The Carriers Liability Act.

In 2002 Alan formed Platt & Associates, an immigration law practice, which merged with the firm in 2016.

Highlight Matters

  •  Advising an “A” list pop icon on a complex UK immigration matter.
  • Dealing successfully with a number of “Windrush” clients and obtaining them indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom and British Citizenship.  Preparing litigation documents in relation to compensation claims against the Home Office for their earlier treatment of “Windrush” applicants.
  • Advising a number of Tier 1 (Investor) and Tier 1 (Innovator) clients in 
  • relation to their UK investment and business intentions in the United Kingdom and securing visas in these categories.
  • Provision of seminars to United Kingdom employers on the implications of Brexit, as they affect the company’s ability to hire and retain EU nationals in their workforce.
  • Regularisation of a number of client’s UK immigration status via family or relationship circumstances - FLR(FP) applications
  • Advising on complex family immigration cases and securing visas and leave to remain for these applicants.
  • Successful representation of clients at the Immigration Appeals Tribunal
