You, Yael Selig

Yael focuses primarily on all areas of family law, specialising in ancillary relief and finances, as well as child law. She has advised a number of high profile-clients, often involving complex financial issues.

Yael is a qualified Barrister both in England & Wales and Gibraltar. She is fluent in Spanish and has advised clients on overseas prenuptial agreements and their compliance with English Law.

She recently succeeded in a jurisdiction dispute under Brussels II Regulations, acting for the husband who maintained that Spain was the right jurisdiction. She is a qualified mediator and collaborative lawyer.

My matter highlights

  • Advising a Husband on a contested Divorce and financial claims made by the Wife in a big money case. Successfully pursuing a Special Contribution argument on behalf of the Husband at a private FDR over assets acquired during the marriage.

  • Dealing with a Jurisdiction dispute under Brussels II Regulations. Advising the Husband who maintained that Spain was the appropriate Jurisdiction. He was served with Divorce proceedings in England. He contested Jurisdiction in the Divorce proceedings on the basis of Article 3 of Brussels II legislation. The Wife was put on Notice that he intended to apply under Paragraph 18 for a dismissal of their Petition for determination of the Jurisdiction issue to stay the proceedings. Husband succeeded in having the Wife’s petition withdrawn on the basis that Spain was the appropriate Jurisdiction for the matter to be dealt with.

  • Advising a Husband in contested children proceedings and succeeding in securing a framework of contact for him despite a negative CAFCASS Report.
