Simon has over 30 years’ experience of a wide range of shipping and insurance matters, with the majority of that as a partner in the marine insurance field, both in London and overseas. His expertise encompasses investigating suspect losses, to complex marine reinsurance claims, coverage advice and policy drafting. Over the years he has gained considerable working knowledge from those on board of how ships work, and how and why they can sink, ground, corrode or burn. Since recently becoming a consultant to the firm, Simon principally supports the operation of the firm’s Lloyd’s office.
Simon’s experience covers an enormously broad range of cases. In addition to investigating dozens of ‘suspect’ marine losses, and hull coverage cases, he has dealt with many complex marine and energy liability and CAR/DSU claims, on both direct and reinsurance covers.
Clients particularly value his expertise of providing ‘behind the scenes’ support to senior London Market insurers. In addition to this specialist area, he has advised on misrepresentation/non-disclosure, piracy, loss of hire/BI, war-risk, specie, facultative and quota share reinsurance, yacht losses, salvage/wreck removal, shipbuilding and joint venture/commercial disputes, D&O and fraud matters, has provided evidence for use in overseas proceedings, as well as drafting a number of marine insurance policies, including a leading Market P&I ‘plain English’ wording.
Simon’s experience also includes opening the firm’s Greece office in 1993.
