Duncan Bateson

You, Duncan Bateson
& Ince, in any case

Duncan is a marine lawyer experienced in advising on superyachts and commercial shipping, with a particular focus on sale and purchase, finance and related dispute resolution.

Duncan undertakes superyacht and commercial shipping work advising private and commercial owners, banks and others on the full range of work, including sale and purchase, finance, new-buildings, charters, insurance, registration, management and joint ventures with related dispute resolution.

He has advised on superyacht issues for over 20 years. He works closely with many of the big brokerage houses in Monaco, London and the US, as well as independent brokers on the sale and purchase, and the construction of yachts. He also acts for banks and was instrumental in one of the firm’s marine finance panel appointments. He acted on the construction of a 160m+ superyacht in Germany, then the largest in the world.

His maritime career started with commercial shipping dispute resolution in the late 1980s, from which he established his then firm’s transactional shipping practice, particularly for Russian and Gulf owners, and later Greek shipping families.

Quote

IT’S A PRIVILEGE TO BE TRUSTED BY PRIVATE CLIENTS, AND THEIR BROKERS, TO PROTECT THEIR INTERESTS AND ENSURE A SMOOTH SALE AND SUCCESSFUL DELIVERY IN SOMETIMES DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES. I’VE EVEN BEEN BROUGHT IN BY THE BROKERS TO RESOLVE AN IMPASSE THE PARTIES’ OWN LAWYERS COULD NOT BRIDGE”

“One market insider notes that Bateson "knows his stuff in yachting," adding: "He is a deal marker, not a deal breaker. He finds the way to make it happen, as difficult as it may be. He is very good with clients."”
