Alexander is the International Managing Partner at Ince, and is responsible for driving the continued growth of the business across the EMEA region, with a particular focus on furthering Ince’s work in emerging markets in Africa. Alexander also sits on the Group’s Executive Committee.   Alexander is a highly experienced lawyer, with a particular expertise in complex cross border energy and infrastructure projects in emerging markets. In particular, Alexander specialises in major power, energy/natural resources and infrastructure projects and financings.

Throughout his 20 years’ experience, Alex has represented a broad range of regional and international lenders, multi-lateral lenders, development finance institutions, borrowers and sponsor groups, conducting business across Europe and Africa, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa. Alex provides clear, commercially-focused advice on complex issues to clients operating in the power, renewables, oil and gas, and infrastructure sectors.

Alex has been recognised by the Legal 500 in the categories of infrastructure, power, and most recently as a leading practitioner in emerging markets.

My matter highlights

  • Representing Kenya Airport Authority in relation to the review and response to a privately initiated investment proposal from Kenya Airways to take over the operation and development of Jomo Kenyatta Airport.

  • Representing L'Agence Malagasy de Developpement economique et de Promotion (AMDP) in relation to the development and financing of a 1,000 MW coal fired power plant with associated transmission and distribution infrastructure in Madagascar in conjunction with JIRAMA, the state-owned utility.

  • Representing Canadian Solar, the borrower, in a GBP 41,850,000 limited recourse financing from Bayerische Landesbank in connection with ten solar projects in the UK owned by the borrower.

  • Representing Nord/LB on the €30 million project financing of a 26 MW wind project located in Mont de Saint Loup, France, a project sponsored and developed by Belgian energy company, TTR Energy and in relation to the subsequent sale of the wind farm to a Swiss investment company and subsequent amendments to the finance documents.

  • Representing the African Development Bank, Standard Bank Plc and a syndicate of local Nigerian lenders, including United Bank for Africa, First Bank of Nigeria and Zenith Bank, as the senior lenders on the $450 million Lekki Toll Road project.
