Your career path

We’re proud to say that a high number of our partners trained at Ince, and that we have a high retention rate for trainees. We’re passionate about helping our people progress their career, realising both their potential and ambition. We’ll work with you throughout your career with us, regularly reviewing your goals and how we can help you get there.

Right from the start we aim to make sure that your time with us is packed with valuable learning and development experiences. In the October before your start date we’ll also enroll you in our ‘buddy scheme’. One of our first year trainees is assigned to support you during both the year before your start date and the first year of your training contract.

The first two weeks of your contract will be spent on the Professional Skills course, giving you a solid grounding in the basics. You’ll then enjoy an induction, meeting people from across the firm and learning more about life at Ince.

The main body of your training will consist of four seats, each of six months duration. However, although you’ll be sitting with a different partner for each seat, you could find yourself working with any of the firm’s partners in any business strand at any time.

In addition to the compulsory training to qualify as a solicitor, you’ll enjoy an extensive training programme – including client communication and document drafting as well as the more specialised subjects relating to our practice, such as shipping, insurance and energy work. You’re encouraged to attend the many in-house lectures that we arrange for trainees throughout the year. Throughout your training contract, you’ll benefit from regular feedback to support your development, both informally from partners when work is completed and through formal appraisals conducted by a partner and our dedicated trainee HR team.
