How many traineeships do you offer?

Up to 10 each year fluctuating based on business need.

What is the application process and deadlines for the Trainee Recruitment Placement Scheme and traineeships?

We’ve outlined the application process and deadlines for the trainee recruitment placement scheme and training contracts however if you have any further questions please get in touch.

Who should I address my covering letter to?

Please address your letter to Jessica Watling, Employee Development Advisor.

Do you pay the LPC and GDL fees?

Yes, we pay fees for future trainees for both the LPC and GDL and provide a maintenance grant while you are studying towards these courses.

Should I apply if I don’t meet the academic requirements?

Only if you have strong mitigating circumstances; otherwise, we are looking for a minimum 2:1 degree and AAB at A Level. Where you are only slightly below the academic benchmark we may still be able to progress your application where other areas of your application are strong.

Do you take on non-law students?

About 50% of our fee-earners did a subject other than law. We welcome applications from non-law students. If candidates can show a high level of achievement in any subject, combined with a commitment to the law and the right competencies then their application will be of interest to us.

Do you take on mature applicants?

Yes. In the past we have recruited trainees who have had significant prior work experience. We are particularly interested in applicants who are embarking on a second career after a career in an area of work in which the firm specialises.

Do you keep in contact with trainees before they join the firm?

Yes. The graduate team has regular contact with the future trainees prior to them joining the firm. We invite our future trainees to regular social events throughout the year.

Do trainees socialise outside work?

Ince is a very sociable firm. Teams working on cases often go out for lunch or after work drinks. The Ince social calendar is always full and our monthly get togethers are extremely popular with everyone. You can read more in the ‘Culture’ section of the site.

Do you attend law fairs?

Yes. A member of our graduate recruitment team will be attending law fairs across the country, the dates are outlined in our Opportunities section, under events.

Would an LLM help my application?

If you are genuinely interested in doing an LLM, then you should do so. While an LLM may, in some cases, be an indicator of an individual candidate’s aptitude, it will never be a determining factor in the selection process.

Do you consider applications from candidates with degrees from countries outside the UK?

Yes, we do. If you have a degree from outside the UK and wish to undertake a traineeship in order to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales, you will need to apply to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for a certificate of academic standing and complete the GDL and LPC. Further information regarding how to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales can be found on the SRA’s website (www.sra.org.uk).
