Our Expertise

The core areas our offices offer in Germany and throughout Ince & Co’s twelve offices located in ten countries are as follows:

Our office has leading experience in admiralty such as rescue, assistance, salvage and pollution. Our offices are renowned for their expertise in relation to maritime insurance, chartering, sale and purchase of ships, shipbuilding and ship finance.

We advise our clients on their projects but also in commercial disputes in international trade, finance, logistics, transport, and maritime, road, rail, aviation or multi-modal transport. We advise all participants in the maritime industry: owners, charterers, freight handlers, yards, and marine insurers including hull, cargo and freight.

We offer all legal services required by the insurance and reinsurance market. Our clients include insurers, reinsurers, brokers and subscribers. We represent clients in mediation procedures, before all courts and in arbitration institutions. We advise on regulatory questions and on the scope of insurance coverage as well as drafting insurance policies.

We advise on the full spectrum of renewable energy projects and have played a part in more than 50% of European offshore wind farm projects that are operational or under construction. We negotiate and draft the contracts. Our experience includes wind farm construction contracts and charterparties for offshore installation vessels.

We also handle asset and project finance for renewable energy projects as well as guarantee and repayment issues which arise. Our in-depth knowledge of the maritime sector and its risks and practices is a major advantage in the success of our clients’ offshore projects.

Insurance and Reinsurance

Ince & Co is one of the leading specialist insurance and reinsurance law firms in the world. We have market leading expertise married with a strong grasp of industry realities in multiple classes of business, across the globe in Germany.

We have a solid practice in Germany that keeps growing to satisfy the needs of one of the largest insurance markets in the world. Our Cologne and Hamburg offices act for insurance and reinsurance companies, underwriters, captives and brokers, across multiple classes and multiple jurisdictions, in respect of German and English law in both contentious and noncontentious business.

Commercial disputes

We are skilled and experienced litigators. We have a worldwide reputation, based on our strategic and thorough handling of contentious matters. We are aware that it is often preferable to avoid, if possible, a lengthy dispute – but not at any cost. We anticipate the practical difficulties and prepare strategies in order to avoid them. When litigation is unavoidable, we assist our clients and help them resolve matters efficiently and cost effectively through dialogue, negotiation, mediation or management of procedures. We attend all state Courts as well the main arbitration institutions. Our knowledge of foreign languages and our knowledge of other jurisdictions benefits our clients in international arbitration.

International trade

In relation to international trade, Ince & Co Germany takes part in negotiation and drafting all types of contracts. Our experts advise ship owners, charterers and banks in relation to financing bulk carriers, cruise ships, yachts and other specialised ships (such as seismic research ships, cable layers, specialised transport and offshore services). Our involvement in commercial law extends beyond the maritime sector. We also advise merchants, intermediaries, manufacturers and oil companies. Our advice in relation to sale and purchase, construction, financing and chartering and private jets is an important area of activity.

Our philosophy is to understand the markets and the activity sectors in which our clients develop in order to ascertain the risks they are faced with and to provide solutions.

Our aviation lawyers advise on matters for private individuals in the sale and purchase, financing and management of aircraft. We also advise in matters for airline companies purchasing aircraft, insurers, managers, airports and professional associations. We are involved in studies relating to aircraft casualties and advise our clients particularly on financial and insurance related matters.
