CARDIFF - Systems Specialist

Reporting to: IT Manager

Based: St Fagans, Cardiff 

Flexibility: Willing to travel within the UK

Contract Type: Permanent/Full Time


Performing as part of the Infrastructure team, maintaining, supporting and developing IT systems and infrastructure across the business, with emphasis on business systems, applications and database technologies. Ensuring availability and performance of systems and services through a process of continual improvement. Providing support to colleagues within the IT team globally and to users of IT services within the business.

Special Terms

Shifts TBC on a rota basis – current is 37.5 hours per week (shifts 08:00-16:30 08:30-17:00, 09:00-17:30; 09:30-18:00, and 10:00-18:30); although flexibility in working hours is a requirement and you can expect that additional hours and assistance with evening work and weekend to be required (as much notice as practically possible will be provided and overtime is paid).

Participation in emergency on-call cover as a point of technical escalation is also required (the remuneration for being ‘on call’ is separate from annual salary).


Essential - General

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly both verbally and in writing at all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Understanding of legal business processes and systems in general.
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with, ITIL processes, procedures and toolsets
  • Managing systems changes and small projects/work streams

Essential - Technical

  • Experience managing iManage document management systems. (pref. iManage 10 Clustered environment, IDOL 8.5, EMM for Exchange, 9.3 Client)
  • Microsoft SQL Server database management and support
  • Knowledge and support of Windows Server operating systems, core services and Active Directory
  • General knowledge of core networking and services (e.g. switching, routing, VLANs, WLAN, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, LDAP)
  • General understanding of server and storage infrastructure technologies


  • Legal systems support experience – Bighand, Copitrak, Rekoop
  • Microsoft Sharepoint / Web Server support and development
  • Experience supporting Exchange 2013 and/or 365
  • Knowledge of, and experience supporting, VMware environments.
  • Experience with SAN / NAS storage (pref. NetApp/HP StoreVirtual)
