Our local community
Our local community means supporting community groups and academic institutions within our geographic areas.
Monetary, clothing and food donations have recently gone to:
- The Whitechapel Mission
- The RNLI
- The Spitalfields City Farm
- The Tower Hamlets Law Centre
- OSCAR(supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital)
- London Legal Support Trust Legal Walk
Tower Hamlets Law Centre
Ince runs a drop-in legal clinic at the Tower Hamlets Law Centre, offering pro bono advice on immigration law.
Every other week, a team of trainees, associates and consultants heads east to the site just off Commercial Road, to help deliver much needed advice and guidance to local people seeking legal assistance. We offer advice on questions of immigration law, which is an area in desperate need of support.
East London Business Alliance
Ince runs a variety of projects through a delivery programme with the East London Business Alliance (ELBA), a charity that builds connections between businesses and local communities in East London, whose boroughs are amongst the most deprived in England. Ince London’s ELBA delivery programme includes:
Team Challenges with the Forget Me Not Project (a dementia charity) and Spitalfields City Farm
Providing non-legal skills and training (such as adult interviewing skills workshops with The Limehouse Project and The Tower Project)
Supporting local schools and universities (such as leadership workshops with the Sarah Bonnell School, career insight visits with Norlington School for Boys and drop-in CV clinics with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL))
Remote volunteering (such as CV advice for students attending QMUL, the University of Greenwich and the University of East London)
A Christmas toy appeal for local shelters
We are involved in a number of mentoring schemes with both schools and universities. School schemes are focused on increasing self-confidence, broadening horizons and raising aspirations. University schemes are aimed at helping students decide on their careers and assisting those without contacts within the profession to obtain training contracts. Current partners include the University of Law, University of Southampton, Queen Mary University of London, University of Greenwich and the Cardinal Pole Catholic School in Hackney.
The firm sponsors Springwood High School's mock trial team. The team has twice achieved national success and gone on to compete in a global competition held in New York.
The Brain Injury Café
Every fortnight our Clinical Negligence colleagues at Ince Metcalfes in Bristol volunteer for the Brain Injury Café, an informal support group for those who have suffered brain injury. Ince Metcalfes support the members by organising the meetings, taking part in conversations and, most importantly, providing the tea and biscuits!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ince Metcalfes continued to support the Café by organising weekly meetings via Zoom, which proved to be very beneficial for the members to incorporate some form of normality into their schedules.
Our Gibraltar team participated in the Med-Step Challenge in aid of cancer relief in 2019 and, in 2020, the ‘Stay Home’ fundraising initiative organised by local TV to support the Gibraltar Health Authority during the COVID-19 crisis.
